Related Group paid $9.3 million for a development site at the Fort Lauderdale office park at 6700 N. Andrews Ave. Naya USA sold the site, while CPN West kept the 309,243-square-foot office building. Related filed plans last year for an eight-story project called Manor Cypress Creek on the vacant part of the property. The proposal calls for 422 apartments and 591 parking spaces, including 62 workforce apartments for households making up to 120% of area median income. Plans also list a pool, fitness center and interior courtyard. The purchase moves the site into Related’s control, but the apartment project still must move through the development process.

Barry Stoler paid $125 million for a Fort Lauderdale Honda dealership and is now planning a major expansion, the South Florida Business Journal reported Aug. 14. The dealership has been renamed Stoler Honda Fort Lauderdale, and the new owner is buying another site for the expansion. The final footprint, construction schedule and opening date for the expanded operation have not been announced.

Allegiant is adding a nonstop seasonal route between Portsmouth International Airport at Pease and Fort Lauderdale. The airline says the “hyper-seasonal” service will run from Feb. 20 to May 1, 2027. The route was part of a five-city expansion announced Monday, Aug. 17. Pease’s executive director said travelers had been asking for access to South Florida’s east coast. Allegiant already flies from Pease to Orlando and Punta Gorda, with seasonal service to St. Pete-Clearwater. For Fort Lauderdale travelers, the new route creates a direct link to New Hampshire’s Seacoast for a little more than two months. Allegiant has served Pease since 2013 and also operated there from 2005 to 2007. Anyone building a trip around it should check Allegiant’s operating days and fares.

Wednesday’s heat index rose above 112 degrees as a heat wave continued across South Florida. Along Las Olas Boulevard, one visiting family returned indoors during the afternoon and came back out in the evening. Residents recommended constant hydration, spending more time inside and skipping the beach or outdoor dining during the hottest hours. A Fort Lauderdale animal-daycare owner avoided afternoon dog walks, used a small pool and splash pad, and advised checking pavement, finding shade and carrying water. Memorial Healthcare physician Danielle Cohen urged sunscreen, hydration and avoiding sunlight when possible. Broward Health Medical Center physician Ryan Queen said clinicians had been treating heat-related injuries and illness and recommended fluids, shade or air conditioning and light-colored clothing.

Summer Jamz runs Friday, Aug. 21, from 7 to 10 p.m. at Mills Pond Park. The concert is part of David Deal Playday, a week-long Fort Lauderdale celebration with youth and community events. Playday began in 1953 under Joseph C. Carter and gave Fort Lauderdale youth a chance to compete in track and field events. It took David Deal Sr.’s name in 1971. Friday night is the concert stop in the larger schedule; the city also lists golf, basketball, jazz, boxing, swimming and Kids Day among the week’s events. The concert is free and includes a kids zone with bounce houses and yard games, plus food, drink and merchandise vendors.
