King tides reach into the weekend
Rosh Hashanah service times and two venues, plus the new police headquarters and a beach hotel sale.
High tides leave less clearance beneath fixed bridges. If you’re taking a boat out this weekend, the city advises checking the tides before leaving the dock. On land, the September 10–13 king-tide forecast brings a risk of flooding on low-lying streets.
The city’s current predicted king-tide period runs September 10–13, covering the whole weekend. Rain, wind and high groundwater can worsen flooding, including outside the forecast dates.
Avoid walking or driving through flooded streets. Saltwater can corrode a vehicle, and driving through it can push water onto neighboring property. Report impassable roads or blocked drains to 954-828-8000 or through FixIt FTL. After trash collection, move empty carts to a safe location so they do not obstruct drainage.
Hotel Maren changes hands south of Las Olas
Rockpoint and Newbond Holdings announced their acquisition of Hotel Maren on September 3. The 141-room hotel at 525 South Fort Lauderdale Beach Boulevard was built in 2021 and is part of Hilton’s Curio Collection. Its new owners anticipate changes to dining and public areas.

A new police headquarters, with an old sign inside
Unveiled September 9, the new headquarters cost about $165 million, WLRN reports. Voters approved a $100 million bond for the project in 2019; construction costs and inflation drove the estimate higher before a design flaw caused further delays. AECOM, the design firm, agreed to pay for the required fixes.
The three-story, 191,000-square-foot building includes a forensics lab, a real-time crime center and a community center. Its Faraday room blocks electromagnetic signals to help protect evidence on phones against remote wiping.
Chief Bill Schultz saved a piece of the old building: its entrance sign. He installed it inside the new headquarters the night before the ribbon-cutting.
